Paradoxalement, c'est peut-être pourtant par cette absence même que le surréalisme trouve sa place en architecture. Le poids de cette tradition, l'élan vers cette utopie auront ainsi fondé une véritable exigence architecturale, qui devait, accompagner la progressive sortie de l'architecture des canons modernistes. Accueillant architectes, littéraires comme historiens de l art, ce volume aborde aussi bien l approche surréaliste de l architecture proprement dite (par Breton, Tzara, Bataille) que la présence de l architecture dans la littérature ou la peinture (De Chirico, Gracq, Magritte, Malkine, Mandiargues), voire au cinéma, sans oublier les projets architecturaux en tant que tels (Matta, Kiesler, Marcel Jean, Doumayrou).
