Born in Edo (now Tokyo), Hokusai is best known as author of the woodblock print series 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' (Fugaku Sanjuroku-kei, c. 1831) which includes the internationally iconic print, 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'].
