Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Instructor Plans: Computing / Data Processing / IT / Telecommunication, grade: 1,5, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna (Telekommunikation und Internettechnologien), course: Scientific Publications and Research in Telecommunications, language: English, abstract: The increasing gap among capacity and demand poses an important call for novel network technologies to allow mobile operators to improve performance (from the end-users' point of view) on a cost-effective basis. In fact, Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) is a key component for an innovative set of base services defined for all-IP networks: the objective relies on making such new services as accessible as voice and SMS are nowadays, while also offering a flexible interaction with Internet applications.Indeed, LTE focus on a (rather flat) all-IP access technology aiming at delivering a bandwidth-efficient method of carrying multiple types of user traffic at the same time. In other words, the capability of deploying Voice over IP (VoIP) services, while also supporting high-rate data throughputs, characterizes one of the critical drivers for the development to LTE.Within this context, the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) are essential technologies for deploying VoIP in an LTE setting. Nevertheless, the LTE RAN features are ultimately responsible for creating 'value added' services in relation to VoIP. Therefore, this paper illustrates in the second chapter the advantages of the IMS-based VoLTE approach as well as its (strategic) positioning compared to initial methods and over-the-top (OTT) providers.Furthermore, the third chapter explains that optimization of radio features and parameters is required to offer reliable VoLTE connections based on high success rates. This is especially important for highly-competitive markets like the Austrian telecommunication sector: annual network performance tests (conducted by the P3 Group for example) may unmask a mobile operator's (network) vulnerabilities and critically influence its customer's preference and the likely churn rate. Finally, conclusions are drawn based on the key findings described in this paper.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna (Institut for Telecommunications and Internet Technologies), language: English, abstract: Smart Logistics represent technologies that enable fuel reduction and energy efficiency through better route and load planning. Within this context, location-based services (LBS) are an enabler for Smart Logistics by bringing location information to existing mobile applications. For instance, this creates a great deal of value-added, personalized services aimed at meeting enterprise as well as user demands for improved safety and efficiency. This thesis should examine the economic feasibility of future implementations of LBS in the European logistics industry, especially for on-road transportation services. Furthermore, the ongoing evolution of mobile communication standards (4G, LTE) along with the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) surely boost the realization of yet unexploited opportunities in the logistics industry: cost-effective and smart tracking systems with global reach tailored at specific (logistical) needs may serve as example. In fact, this could benefit not only the direct parties involved (logistics providers and their customers), but also other stakeholders like communities in terms of a reduced environmental impact, etc. The IMS, an architectural framework for the delivery of IP multimedia services, is capable to offer real-time LBS to foster the transition to Smart Logistics. From this point of view, the technological readiness of telecom operators as service providers plays an important role while assessing the economic feasibility of LBS in the logistics industry. Here, the term economic feasibility refers to savings (e.g. fuel savings over implementation costs) derived from the usage and maintenance of devices supporting LBS within the IMS architectural framework. The thesis takes these aspects into consideration in order to evaluate advantages, drawbacks and risks derived from the provision of LBS.

The well-known business model of telecommunication operators is continuously being affected by the intensifying struggle between operators. These aspects do not only involve an increasing saturation within the communications market, but also contributes to a rising substitution behavior triggered by well-established Internet businesses. In this context, the Ovum Global Telecoms Market Outlook 2013-2018 predicts for the coming five years a global increase of mobile lines of about 25% (e.g. 8.1 billion in total by 2018, the relevant growth coming primarily from emerging economies). However, the outlook for the fixed-network market does not look that promising: a 5% reduction in voice revenues for the period 2012 - 2018 is expected. Other important features that influence the economic achievement of a telecommunications provider are represented by the current regulatory provisions along with the price level the provider can realize. Obviously, this price level generally mirrors the customer behavior and the development (stage) of a particular market. In this sense, the mobile industry has certainly the potential to set free even superior benefits and contribute to meets the EU sustainability and innovation targets defined in the EU 2020 strategy [14]. In fact, the European mobile industry is no longer restricted to the provision of basic voice and data services, but is rather taking to an active role in offering high-speed broadband access and (data) connectivity. This involves a new third wave of connectivity (e.g. beyond tablets and laptops), comprising cars and buildings and having undoubtedly the prospect of connecting almost anything and anyone (the 'Connected Life' as the GSMA denotes it).

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Instructor Plans: Computing / Data Processing / IT / Telecommunication, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna (Electronic Engineering), language: English, abstract: This bachelor thesis aims at providing an overview of the evolution process from the current circuit-switched (CS) voice services to those based on the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS). The timeline in question comprises the years 2013 to 2018 and takes into consideration three possible scenarios: one intermediate state and two target states, each of them presenting a particular setting in respect to the CS & IP domain mediation. Those states are subsequently evaluated according to certain predefined criteria. In addition, a complementary framework is given by the SWOT analysis which will consequently lead to the final recommendations for one of the leading European telecom organizations (the company in question is not disclosed throughout this thesis on purpose). Within this context, the major characteristics of the Austrian as well as European mobile markets are examined. Finally, the expected key assumptions and developments for the given timeframe are presented together with the particular findings of the topics previously described. As a starting point, the basic IMS architecture is presented together with its major features in respect to other current technologies. In a further step and based on the previous information, the key motivations for the transition from CS to IMS-based voice services will be discussed. In this sense, a service consistency delivered by centralized services on an access agnostic basis is assumed. For this purpose the initial state is evaluated regarding its three relevant levels: the transport/endpoint, session/control and application/service layers. Next, a more comprehensive approach, the intermediate state, is evaluated: here, the legacy SCP supports the CS&IP domain mediation via the IM-SSF. Moreover, two other target states are assessed involving the SIP AS using a reverse IM-SSF and the L2 interface respectively. Having highlighted the significant characteristics of each (future) state, attention is then drawn on the various criteria for IMS-based voice services such as roaming, handset capabilities and the like. Hence, a SWOT analysis is presented addressing the question 'Is the deployment of the intermediate state from a technical and economic perspective recommendable Finally, the major mobile market characteristics in Europe as well as the expected developments for the timeframe 2013 - 2018 will be described. Furthermore, the concluding recommendations are derived from the key findings throughout this thesis.
