Paperback. Condición: New. HEROIN by Grace Dyas, Trade by Mark O'Halloran, The Art of Swimming by Lynda Radley, Pineapple by Phillip McMahon, I ? Alice ? I by Amy Conroy, The Big Deal edited by Una McKevitt, Oedipus Loves You by Simon Doyle and Gavin Quinn, The Year of Magical Wanking by Neil WatkinsEdited and introduced by Thomas ConwayThis anthology comprises eight new plays by Irish playwrights premièred between the years 2006 and 2011.These playwrights ride, however, in no slipstream of the identifiably Irish play. Here, the enterprise of playwriting itself is being re-imagined. Here, above all else, is a commitment to becoming in the theatre. For all that, each play is concerned with what is unfinished business in Ireland. How astonishing, then, that these plays should revolve for the most part around identity and, in particular, sexual identity. How identity comes into play, how we open up the field of play, how we raise into collective experience the exercise of that play - the urgency in the playwriting would appear to lie precisely here.We can read from the historical moment - from a narrative emphasizing an economic bubble and its hangover - into these plays. Or we can take these playwrights at their word and observe lives lived at the contour of identities in the making. It is for us as readers, just as we have as theatre-goers - frequently scandalized, enthralled, shamed, appalled, unburdened, tickled pink - to decide.…

Hardback. Condición: New. The 2008 crash was the worst financial crisis and the most severe economic downturn since the Great Depression. It triggered a complete overhaul of the global regulatory environment, ushering in a stream of new rules and laws to combat the perceived weakness of the financial system. While the global economy came back from the brink, the continuing effects of the crisis include increasing economic inequality and political polarization. After the Crash is an innovative analysis of the crisis and its ongoing influence on the global regulatory, financial, and political landscape, with timely discussions of the key issues for our economic future. It brings together a range of experts and practitioners, including Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize winner; former congressman Barney Frank; former treasury secretary Jacob Lew; Paul Tucker, a former deputy governor of the Bank of England; and Steve Cutler, general counsel of JP Morgan Chase during the financial crisis. Each poses crucial questions: What were the origins of the crisis? How effective were international and domestic regulatory responses? Have we addressed the roots of the crisis through reform and regulation? Are our financial systems and the global economy better able to withstand another crash? After the Crash is vital reading as both a retrospective on the last crisis and an analysis of possible sources of the next one.…

Añadir al carritoOriginal Paper Covered Boards. Condición: Good. First Edition. 1824. First edition. viii, 148pp. The author of this hard-to-find book treated ophthalmia in England, Ireland, France Sapin, America, and the West Indies. He pursued the antiphlogistic plan of treatment for twelve years but was frequently disappointed with the result and develkoped the opinion that ophthalmia was aggravated by low diet, total abstinence from wine, depletion, and confinement to bed.He developed his own treatment with the greatest part of his information drawn from observation in the 64th Regiment; a corps with which he served in different climates from the year 1813. The case of the book is in need of repair. The original paper covered boards are worn and detached with bumping and damage to the corners. The last leaf of the book (pages 147 and 148) is still attached to the rear board. It was bound with a cloth spine, most of which is missing from the spine. The endpaper on the front board has a stamp from the Glasgow Eye Infirmary Library. Apart from this stamp there are no library indications. The contents are in better condition being largely clean with only a little scattered foxing and some light soiling from finger smudges on the title page. The front free endpaper and title page are loose and, as mentioned above, the last page of the book is separated from the rest of the text and is attached to the rear board. Some of the pages remain unseparated along the top edge.…
