Passionnément amoureux, Charles de Sainte-Maure, futur duc de Montausier (1610-1690), offre en 1634 à sa "déesse mortelle" Lucine-Julie d'Angennes (1607-1671) un recueil de madrigaux. Composés par les plus talentueux poètes du temps (Ménage, Tallemant de Réaux et Scudéry), ceux-ci exaltent sur le thème des fleurs les qualités et la beauté de Julie.
