Die gegenwärtige Diskussion über die spezifischen Qualitäten des Bildlichen bringt die Begriffe der Figur sowie des Figurativen ins Spiel: Das zeich…net sie als ein Phänomen aus, welches mehrdeutig ist, Strukturen von Wahrnehmung und Wissen durchkreuzt und füreinander durchlässig macht. Ebenso wenig wie das Bild ist auch die Figur nicht mehr einzig von ihrer illustrativen oder narrativen Funktion her zu begreifen. Erkundet man die Figur nicht als konturierte, sondern als bewegte, entfalten sich im Figurativen destabilisierende Kräfte, in denen wiederum selbst Bilder der Veränderung und des Übergangs manifest werden: Eine Figur stellt (noch) kein spezifisches Bild vor Augen, sondern kündigt es immer wieder neu an.
