First published in 1783, the work is very scarce in all contemporary editions.A charming volume of simply relayed fables and moral lessons, adorned with twenty-nine woodcuts.The work of prolific writer of eighteenth century children's books, Lady Ellenor Fenn (1743-1813), who often published under the pseudonyms Mrs. Teachwell and Mrs. Lovechild. 'Cobwebs to Catch Flies' (1783), a reading primer, was perhaps her most popular work; it went through multiple editions in both Britain and America until the 1870s.With three pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.With the inscription 'Francis T. Palgrave, Dec 17th 1828' to a front blank. This may indicate that the work was given to British critic, anthologist and poet Francis Turner Palgrave when he was four years old. A further inscription reads 'given by my dearest mother to EP - by her to me, Nov. 1844', to the verso of the front free endpaper. In a full cloth binding. Minor loss of cloth to spine tail, with discolouration to back strip. Lacking rear free endpaper. Inscription to front blank. Internally, firmly bound.
