Añadir al carritoFirst Edition. The blond-stained wood with Folk Art decoration -- lightly chiseled outlines of lettering and drawn dragon, painted coloring within -- that sets this copy apart and lends it an evocative charm. While the letters are Roman, they are rendered in a manner to suggest Chinese characters, and the appropriateness of the…playful dragon figure requires no explanation. The booklet is an early relic of the popularization of Chinese food in the U.S. The many vignette illustrations lend extra charm and help set the mood, so to speak. 8vo. 23 by 15 cm. 47 pp. The boards bring to mind a series of cookbooks that were published with wood board bindings, but here we believe it was a homemade project. We think the boards also expressed the interest of the maker in the booklet's subject matter, and they played a part in the preservation of this copy. The booklet has light to moderate wear. The pages are clean, with a normal or expected level of age toning. the boards have a few light stains but are sturdy, of course, and remain highly appealing. Wraps, which held between two thick wood boards. Stab binding through wood and pamphlet proper. Leather cord passing through holes. Warren G. Troutman (Decoration by) (ilustrador).
