Añadir al carritohardcover. Condición: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Deep in the Heart of Your Brain was the title of Jacqueline Donachie's 2016 solo show at the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow. This publication centres around Hazel, a key work from that show - a compelling film connecting the experiences of sisters where one sibling has inherited the gene for myotonic dystrophy and one has not, to a wider discussion around relationships, age and appearance. Donachie has long had an interest in the capacity for artworks to influence research and care in the field of genetics, and has collaborated for many years with researchers in both Glasgow and Newcastle. In this book and in her work she raises questions around health, ability, and the assumptions made both by 'the outside world' and within family dynamics. Art can be a powerful method of articulating lived experience - everyone has a story to tell, to share. The book contains full transcripts of Donachie's frank interviews with sisters, as well as a new, commissioned work of fiction by award-winning author Nicola White, and an essay by journalist and lecturer Moira Jeffrey looking at life stories, epiphany and sisters. This publication is an excellent resource for scientists, artists, families living with myotonic dystrophy, and museums looking at the social and emotional complexities around disability, care, relationships and ageing.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Glasgow's rapid industrial development in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries left a legacy of unemployment and cramped housing. Nowhere was this more apparent than in the Gorbals area, just south of the river Clyde. The area, as a point of entry to one of the UK's most industrially prolific cities, has a broad significance both locally and nationally; and given the range of ethnic groups which have settled in the area over the last 200 years, it is central to the UK and Scotland's history of international relations. Since the Gorbals area was established in the nineteenth century, numerous efforts have been made to clean it up. The most recent initiative has involved the demolition of the infamous, monolithic 1960s tower blocks, and their replacement with modern, low-rise flats. As this third crack at regeneration comes to a close, 20 artists have been allowed in past the Gorbals' tough exterior, to work with the architects, developers and community in creating permanent and temporary projects relevant to the area. "Arcade Artists and Place-making" is a documentation by artists, academics, architects, writers and lay commentators of the work surrounding the regeneration of the Gorbals. The book addresses some of the issues that arose during this project, and looks at the work of participating artists - a fascinating exchange that provides insight into the paradigm shifts happening in architecture and public art practise in general. The book appeals to anyone involved with such schemes, such as artists, arts commissioning agencies, architects and urban planners, as well as those with a more general interest in art, culture, and recent UK history, particularly in the context of Scotland as this is a landmark project for Glasgow's urban landscape. "Arcade Artists and Place-making" is essential reading for anyone interested in art regeneration and consultation processes that inform the redevelopment of so much contemporary urbanism.
