Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the story of The Perse School in Cambridge from its humble beginnings as a small, poorly funded institution to a renowned center of learning that has shaped countless lives over several centuries. The school was the brainchild of Dr. Stephen Perse, a successful physician who had a deep concern for the welfare of his community. Perse believed that education was the key to a better life, and he was determined to provide opportunities for the underprivileged children of Cambridge. The book traces the school's history from its inception in 1615 through various challenges and triumphs. It sheds light on the school's educational philosophy and curriculum, which emphasized the classics and aimed to produce well-rounded individuals who were prepared for university study or a career in business or the professions. The book also discusses the school's relationship with the University of Cambridge and the wider community. The Perse School has played a significant role in the intellectual and cultural life of Cambridge for over four centuries, and its story offers valuable insights into the evolution of education in England. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Sir, The last time I was in town, you expressed a wish to see my observations on the comet which my sister Caroline Herschel discovered in the evening of the 21st of last December?(page 151).

Añadir al carritoCondición: Very Good. A special 8 page supplement celebrating the opening of the Design Centre. Advert clipped from page 3/4. Two staples in front cover. We have recently acquired the library of Harry Horlock Stringer who was a leading British potter at the old Fulham Pottery in the 1950's where he concentrated on earthenware. Later he moved to Taggs Yard in Barnes, south west London, where he built and ran his own school, welcoming pupils and making friends such as Ginger Rogers from across the world at a time when studio pottery was enjoying newfound popularity. Stringer experimented with his own glazes and firing techniques, and wrote a book on Raku, becoming a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association, editing the association's journal for a time and exhibiting widely as well as lecturing at home and abroad. Añadir al carritoThe collection is in very good condition, with a few staple and pin holes. Gray's letters are signed 'Milner Gray' and occasionally 'Milner'. All but the first two, which are on Society of Industrial Artists letterheads, are on Design Research Unit letterheads. An early letter (5 April 1949), to Kenneth Luckhurst, Secretary, Royal Society of Arts, apologises for and explains a 'difficulty' which has arisen 'over the fees we estimated for completing the necessary working drawings and supervising construction of the permanent display screens for the Society's headquarters'. The rest of the correspondence makes clear Gray's role as an active member of the Society.
