The work covers a wide variety of ailments with suggested treatments - Fevers, Pleurisy, Madness, Small-Pox, Haemoptoe, Nephritis, Ulcers in the Kidnies, Disorders of the Eyes, The Bastard Peripneumony, or Humoral Asthma, Epilepsy, Flatus, Apoplexy, Venereal Diseases, Diarrhoea, Dysentry, Cholera, Piles, Diabetes, Worms, Scurvy, Importence, Gout, etc. Thomas Marryat M.D. (1730 1792) was an English physician, known also as a medical writer and wit. After a peripatetic life Marryat finally settled in Bristol 1785, where he initially made a good living but died poor in 1792. His reputation as a successful healer survived, and led to this, probably the best, edition of his most popular book. Therapeutics was initially published in Latin in 1758 and translated soon after. Many editions were published in the author's lifetime, some known only in single copies.
