With the inexorable drive to development, particularly prompted by the arrival in the area at the turn of the century of the Metropolitan Railway, these quiet rural villages have grown to become the populous suburbs of London that they are today. These images in this book, drawn exclusively from the archives of the Borough of Hillingdon Heritage Service collection, illustrate much which has falled victim to development and modernisation but also reveal some of the historic gems which have been preserved. They also provide a nostalgic glimpse of times past which will delight local people and enlighten both newcomers and a younger generation. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
