Aunque no todas las lenguas cuentan con el mismo repertorio de citas o marcos introductores, se trata de un universal del lenguaje. En esta monografía se analiza el funcionamiento de los procedimientos de cita en español como manifestación de la polifonía en un contexto particular: la entrevista sociolingüística. A partir del estudio de muestras de habla del corpus PRESEEA - Caracas, se propone un modelo de análisis del discurso referido como categoría lingüística organizada en torno a un continuum. La tipología escalar propuesta incluye desde la reproducción de citas tradicionalmente definidas como 'literales' hasta la referencia general a otros actos de comunicación y, dada su amplitud, es aplicable al análisis de otros géneros orales en español.
