Fr…emdheit ist aber keine statische, sondern eine dynamische Kategorie, die sich je nach der eingenommenen Perspektive verändert. Ausgangspunkt bildet dazu die komparatistische Imagologie, die sich mit der Untersuchung des Bildes eines anderen Landes im Spiegel der Literatur beschäftigt. Literaturdidaktik gilt in dieser Hinsicht als Integrationswissenschaft, die gesellschaftliche Realität beschreibt. Gegenstand der imagologisch-didaktischen Analyse ist das Gesamtwerk des amerikanischen Dramatikers Edward Albee, in dem es in erster Linie um die Thematik der Entfremdung, der Isolation und der Kommunikationslosigkeit in der modernen Gesellschaft geht. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf dem Amerikabild, das Edward Albee dem Rezipienten in seinem Werk vermittelt. Die Analyse konzentriert sich dabei auf die zwei großen Bereiche, um die es in Albees Dramen immer wieder geht. Es ist zum einen die Rolle des Individuums im Mikrokosmos der Familie, zum anderen dessen Rolle innerhalb der gesamten amerikanischen Gesellschaft.
