El objetivo es examinar lo que se denomina «dos políticas de la poesía» en «tiempos de penuria». Y la originalidad consiste no en llevar a cabo un análisis del desencuentro explícito entre ambos (la visita del poeta a la ya legendaria cabaña del filósofo en la Selva Negra, circunstancia que deparó el famoso poema «Todtnauberg»), algo que ha dado lugar a un buen número de estudios especializados, sino en desentrañar la visión, muy diferente, que ambos tenían de la política a partir de una lectura atenta de las relaciones, no menos disímiles, que mantuvieron con dos poetas decisivos de sus respectivas vidas: Hölderlin del lado de Heidegger, y Mandelstamm del lado de Celan. Esta decisión hermenéutica supone una serie de evidencias: no sólo que la literatura (el arte en general) y la filosofía están atravesadas por las promesas políticas, sino que son, en efecto, sus testimonios más altos y profundos.
