Añadir al carritoSoftcover. Condición: Very Good. Eighth Impression. An homage to the Christian mission serving lepers in India, about the Christian missionary, "Mary Reed of Chandag," born in Lowell, Ohio on 4th December 1854, and who then joined the Indian field of the American Methodist Episcopal Church in 1884. She died in 1943 after decades… of service in the British field of India in leper colonies. Sturdy, still tightly bound softcover copy, minor wear of the printed card stock covers, less to lightly toned text-block, but with neither underlining nor highlighting. Perfectly readable, usable copy. Replete with black-and-white plates of lepers and the leper colony mission. Frontispiece of Miss Mary Reed on front free end-paper. From page 3, "Probably no missionary in the world is better known than the subject of this sketch, probably no worker has been more upheld in prayer and sympathy than Miss Reed, whose life history has no parallel in the annals of missionary biography." A fine and engrossing story of an American woman missionary who served at a leper home in India from 1892. 22 [6] pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. "The Romance of Leprosy" is a compelling historical account that explores the multifaceted human experience of one of history's most misunderstood diseases. Written by E. Mackerchar and associated with the work of The Mission to Lepers, this volume provides an insightful look into the inters…ection of medical care, social stigma, and compassionate humanitarianism during the early 20th century. The work delves into the narratives of those living with leprosy and the dedicated efforts of missionaries and medical workers who sought to provide comfort, treatment, and dignity to patients across various regions. Rather than a clinical study, the text focuses on the emotional and spiritual dimensions of the struggle against the disease, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit in the face of isolation and suffering. By documenting the progress of leper asylums and the evolving understanding of the condition, "The Romance of Leprosy" serves as an important record of medical history and Christian social work. This book remains a valuable resource for those interested in the history of public health, the evolution of social welfare, and the legacy of global mission work. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
