Maaike Bleeker schlüpft in die Rolle von Neo in Matrix und schiebt uns ein Datenübertragungskabel ins Rückenmark, um zu fragen, wie Körper- und Kopfwissen einander bedingen. This volume plunges into a number of different archives and resurfaces with physical techniques: Eliza Steinbock finds love in the Lili Elbe Archive, Europe's largest collection of trans\* and queer history; Carmen Mörsch describes how bodies that act as a medium for artistic expression communicate more than just art, inviting us to take a discrimination-wary view. Maaike Bleeker slips into the role of Neo in The Matrix and plugs a data-transfer cable into our spinal cord to ask how intellectual knowledge and physical knowing condition one another.

Añadir al carritoCondición: as new. Amsterdam : Amsterdam University Press, 2008. Paperback. 270 pp. - Gross anatomy, the study of anatomical structures that can be seen by unassisted vision, has long been a subject of fascination for artists. For most modern viewers, however, the anatomy lesson hardly seems the proper breeding ground for the hybrid workings of art and theory. We forget that, in its early stages, anatomy pursued the highly theatrical spirit of Renaissance science, as painters such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci and medical instructors shared audiences devoted to the workings of the human body. Anatomy Live turns our modern notions of the dissecting table on its head - using anatomical theatre as a means of obtaining a fresh perspective on representations of the body, conceptions of subjectivity, and own knowledge about science and the stage. Critically dissecting well-known exhibitions like Body Worlds and The Visible Human Project and featuring contributions from a number of diverse scholars, Anatomy Live is not to be missed by anyone with an interest in this engaging intersection of science and artistic practice. Añadir al carritoCondición: as new. Amsterdam : Amsterdam University Press, 2008. Paperback. 270 pp. - Selected papers presented at the conference "The Anatomical Theatre Revisited" in 2006. Gross anatomy, the study of anatomical structures that can be seen by unassisted vision, has long been a subject of fascination for artists. For most modern viewers, however, the anatomy lesson?the technically precise province of clinical surgeons and medical faculties?hardly seems the proper breeding ground for the hybrid workings of art and theory. We forget that, in its early stages, anatomy pursued the highly theatrical spirit of Renaissance science, as painters such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci and medical instructors like Fabricius of Aquapendente shared audiences devoted to the workings of the human body. Anatomy Live: Performance and the Operating Theatre, a remarkable consideration of new developments on the stage, as well as in contemporary writings of theorists such as Donna Haraway and Brian Massumi, turns our modern notions of the dissecting table on its head?using anatomical theatre as a means of obtaining a fresh perspective on representations of the body, conceptions of subjectivity, and own knowledge about science and the stage. Critically dissecting well-known exhibitions like Body Worlds and The Visible Human Project and featuring contributions from a number of diverse scholars on such subjects as the construction of spectatorship and the implications of anatomical history, Anatomy Live is not to be missed by anyone with an interest in this engaging intersection of science and artistic practice. Añadir al carritoOriginal Paperback. Condición: Gut. MediaMatters, Vol. 1. 269 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Very good and clean. - Sehr gut und sauber. - Anatomy Live: Performance and the Operating Theatre is the first title in the series MediaMatters; a new series at Amsterdam University Press about media, digital culture and technology. Anatomy Live: Performance and the Operating Theatre uses the anatomical theatre as a means of obtaining a cultural-historical perspective on the relationships between representations of the body, conceptions of subjectivity, and the performativity of knowledge, all subjects currently under discussion in a variety of disciplines. The authors demonstrate how the implications of this history can be seen at work in the appearance of dancing and acting bodies on stage, but also how contemporary theatre and performance 'talks back' to this history, criticizing its implications and arguing for alternatives. In its early stages, anatomy was highly theatrical in character, and was pursued in the highly theatrical space of the Renaissance anatomy theatre. In the following centuries, this theatricality disappeared as theatre and theory drifted apart. But new developments on stage, as well as in contemporary theory, suggest the productivity of bringing theatre and theory back into the same room in order to explore alternative conceptions emerging at the intersection of artistic practices and philosophical, theoretical and scientific ideas. Discussions of well known and influential projects such as the Visible Human Project and Body Worlds, as well as the work of well-known philosophers and theorists (Foucault, Deleuze, Haraway, Massumi, and Sawday, among others) present a frame of reference for a wider audience interested in theories and representations of the body, the history of subjectivity in modernity, the construction of spectatorship (in various media) and the interaction between theory and artistic practice.
