Robert W. Service, the Poet of the Yukon, encouraged Ella to publish. It includes a chapter on Joaquin Miller, the reporter who befriended E. B. Lung. With 58 illustrations. This is the true first edition of this personal account of the Alaska gold rush era. Ed Lung was a young accountant in Tacoma, Washington when he heard that gold was found in the Klondike and set out to find his fortune. His diary of that search informs this first-hand account that is Black Sand and Gold. Lung paints a vivid picture of Dawson at the height of its prosperity with its gamblers, prostitutes, cutthroats, Indians, Mounties and desperadoes.…
