Quite a nice, bright copy. L'Illustration was a weekly French newspaper founded by Édouard Charton and published in Paris from 1843 to 1944. It was noted for its publication of photography and artwork (in 1891 L'Illustration became the first French newspaper to publish a photograph, and in 1907 was the first to publish a colour photograph). During the Second World War L'Illustration was directed by Vichy collaborationist Jacques de Lesdain, and as a result was shut down following the 1944 Liberation of Paris.

Hinges are solid and the folding map is in pristine condition - probably never opened. First Edition. Westover served as Captain with the 4th Machine Gun Battalion. His unit was in some of the toughest fighting in World War I and he gives a graphic accounting of some their battles. Two-color foldout map. Black and white illustrations.
