Profusely illustrated in black and white. The Sooner Story was published with private funds by the University of Oklahoma Foundation, Inc., in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the University of Oklahoma. Carolyn Gimpel Hart is an American mystery writer who specializes in traditional mysteries, also known as cozy mysteries. She was born in Oklahoma in 1936. At the age of 11, Hart decided that she wanted to be a newspaper reporter. She worked on school papers beginning in grade school, continuing all the way through her college years. Hart is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Oklahoma (class of 1958), where she majored in journalism. Then Hart worked as a reporter for The Norman Transcript. Hart won a writing contest calling for a mystery novel, sponsored by Dodd, Mead. She went on to write several more mysteries between 1965 and 1972. From 1972 to 1987, she wrote nine stand-alone suspense novels and mysteries. Hart's stand-alone World War II novel Letter from Home was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction by the Oklahoma Center for Poets and Writers at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa. She has twice appeared as one of the featured mystery authors at the Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. Charles F. Long received his journalism degree from Oklahoma University in 1961. He worked for The Norman Transcript as well as the San Angelo Standard-Times. He was an editor of the Sooner Magazine and served for nearly a decade as the Editor of The Quill, a national magazine for journalists. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 1979. In 1965 the University of Oklahoma Association published a 75th anniversary issue of Sooner Magazine entitled "With Optimism for the Morrow," written by Charles F. Long, edited by Paul V. Gallaway, with able assistance from Mary Smith, then with the Oklahoma Press. Although long out of print, that issue is still requested by alumni. The first half of this 90th anniversary publication is a reprint of Long's story re-edited and somewhat condensed dealing with the years from David Ross Boyd through William Bennett Bizzell. The University of Joseph A. Brandt to the present was written by Carolyn G. Hart. Within the restriction of space available, they have woven a good story of 90 years of institutional development which mirrors the growth of a state. Presumed First Edition, First printing Thus.
