paperback. Condición: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. Second Impression. [Stated, with date, on the copyright page.] Preface, Introduction, extensive Footnotes and References, Bibliography, Appendix, Indexes; viii, 322 pages; followed by publisher's catalogue. The attractive deep-green cloth is in fine shape except for a serious bump at the head of the spine---the book's only flaw. [Please see multiple images of the actual book.] The brilliant gilt on the spine remains unaffected, as does the interior: it is lovely, crisp and clean. The fragile, price-clipped dust jacket, which has protected the book so well, has a sunned spine with a few small chips; no text affected. "To the present interpreter Plato is a writer, teacher, and thinker, reflecting the life of his own times and working toward the establishment of an ideal community. Technically he is a comparative philosopher, comparing dialectically the chief varieties of philosophic belief: with a bias in favour of idealism, as contrasted with a simple realism and an equally simple pragmatism, but presenting his views dramatically and leaving it to the reader to reach decisions of his own. Confident above all things that in the balanced philosophic life, as it is more and more brought to bear upon the space-time world, is to be found the solution of all human problems, he sets himself to release the sources of that life, wherever possible, and calls upon all friends of ideas to join him in this co-operative quest."---from the Preface. As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. Please note that, due to COVID-19, overseas shipping may incur unusual delays.…

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 3rd Edition. More Me And Gus. By Frank S Anthony, Francis Jackson Illustrated by Nevile Lodge. Published by A.H Reed, 1957, third edition reprint. Good hardback with jacket. Red cloth boards, some tape marks inside front and back boards and to end-papers, small hole to half-title page at internal margin, binding firm, no inscriptions, light tanning to pages, foxing to end-papers and edges. Jacket has a little chipping, creasing and fading. About the author: Frank Sheldon Anthony Born at Matawhero, near Gisborne in 1891, Frank was the son of Frank Sheldon Senior and Anna Jane (Annie) Anthony. The family moved to south Taranaki a few years later where Frank Snr ran the Manutahi Hotel and In 1902, he bought a farm at Whakamara. The young Anthony went to school at Kakaramea and Whakamara. After a couple of years at Hawera High School, from 1909 he spent a decade at sea and travelled around the world. On the outbreak of World War I he joined the Royal Navy where he was seriously injured in an accident which affected his lungs. He returned to New Zealand in 1918 and, in 1919, bought a 76 acre (30 hectare) rehab farm on Denbigh Road near Midhirst. The farm proved to be only partially cleared, cold, swampy and difficult to develop and was immortalised as Mark Henrick's Mossy Road farm. It was during these farming years, that he wrote ten classic Me and Gus stories, which delightfully captured the somewhat squalid and arduous conditions that many Taranaki cow-cockies of the time had to endure. It was generally accepted locally that a neighbour of Anthony's on the Denbigh Road, Ralph Charles ('Charlie') Carroll, was the inspiration for the "Gus" of his stories, and "Me" was either Mark Henrick (of the 1938 stories) or Mark Hendrick (of the 1950's stories). ALL PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK. All books are sent free by courier postage within New Zealand.…
