Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the origins of quinquennial faculties pro foro externo, a type of legal permissions granted to bishops by popes over several centuries, which allowed them to exercise certain functions and grant dispensations to members of their dioceses. Beginning in the latter half of the 17th century, these faculties underwent significant development, eventually becoming more standardized in both content and form. The author traces the evolution of these faculties from their origins to their codification and analyzes the significance of the changes, focusing on the interplay between the papacy, the bishops, and the broader historical context. Shedding light on the complex dynamics of ecclesiastical governance during this period, this book provides valuable insights into the historical development of episcopal authority and the exercise of papal power. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the development of the quinquennial faculties, which were a form of temporary power granted by the pope to bishops during the 16th and 17th centuries. Quinquennial faculties, allowing bishops to dispense and absolve, differed from previous papal delegations because they were granted for a fixed period and then periodically renewed. The author's extensive research explores how bishops used these faculties during the Counter-Reformation, when the Catholic Church was seeking to restore its authority in the face of Protestant challenges. The book also examines the role of papal nuncios and the way in which the quinquennial faculties contributed to the development of the bishops' authority within the Catholic Church. This work provides new insights into the relationship between the papacy and the bishops during a crucial period of church history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
