He transformed it into a successful farming property while building a major Merino stud. He kept carbon copies of thousands of typed letters over roughly 40 years, creating an unusually detailed contemporary record of his work, ideas, and interactions. The selected letters describe the practical challenges of developing the property from bush, including land clearing, pasture improvement, rabbit control, sheep diseases, and the scientific improvement of Merino sheep through progeny testing and genetics. Lefroy collaborated with scientists and institutions; although not a professional scientist himself, he served on the CSIR (later CSIRO) Council and the Senate of the University of Western Australia. He strongly advocated applying scientific methods to farming and published articles on the subject.…
