His recent credits include adapting Cecil Beaton's designs for the 1976 Broadway revival of My Fair Lady, and costume design for the film production of The Boys in the Band and for the Broadway plays Maggie Flynn and Jimmy - receiving a Tony Award nomination for the latter. As a special consultant to Diana Vreeland, the author helped to assemble the immensely successful Hollywood costume exhibit at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1974.
