Jahrhunderts als Basis haben. Diese wurden von türkischer Seite mehr oder weniger willkürlich adaptiert bzw. transformiert und sind auch im heutigen türkischen Geistesleben ein nicht zu unterschätzender Faktor. In dem Werk wird auch erstmals im Detail der tatsächliche Einfluss des Wiener Orientalisten H.F. Kvergic auf die türkische Ursprachtheorie nachgewiesen, und zudem wird die Rolle Atatürks in der Sprachreform untersucht. Der bibliographische Teil umfasst ca. 1300 Titel und stellt damit auch eine umfassende Literatursammlung zum Thema dar. Im Anhang werden u.a. türkische Dokumente zur Sprachreform erstmalig in deutscher Übersetzung geboten, die auch Nicht-Turkologen das Verständnis dieses wichtigen Bereichs der Kulturgeschichte der Türkei erleichtern sollen. 359 pp. Deutsch.
