During the 13th and 14th century the dynasties of Pappenheim, Wittelsbach and Waler transformed the large fortification into a small but strongly fortified castle. The huge ditches and access yard are still preserved. Der Fundplatz Burghöfe ist vor allem als römischer Kastellstandort und weniger für den mittelalterlichen Burgstall bekannt. Ausgrabungen von 2001 bis 2007 rücken nun auch die mittelalterliche Geschichte des Platzes in ein neues Licht. Bereits im 9. oder 10. Jahrhundert entstand an der Stelle des spätrömischen Kastells ein befestigter Herrenhof, der im 11. Jahrhundert zu einer Burg mit Wohnturm ausgebaut wurde. Im 12. Jahrhundert zählte diese unter dem Namen Turenberc" zu den staufischen Tafelgütern. Erst im 13./14. Jahrhundert wandelten die Pappenheimer, Wittelsbacher und Waler die Befestigung in eine kleine, kompakte Adelsburg um, von der heute noch die imposanten Gräben und der Wirtschaftshof erhalten sind. Very uncommon in the U.S. and very uncommon in a full leather binding. Princess Alice (born 1843) was the third child of Queen Victoria and Albert and was considered the most beautiful of the Queen's daughters but her life (and that of her descendants) was engulfed in tragedy and she died at the age of 35 of diphtheria in the Grand Duchy of Hesse in western Germany on the anniversary of her father Albert's death. She was predeceased by her youngest son "Frittie" who fell out of a window and two of her daughters would be executed by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution including Alix who married Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. From the papers of Captain Cecil William Townsend of the Warwickshire Yeomanry, Dunsterforce and Norperforce, and the British Military Mission to South Russia. Gampert is still at college as he writes, and the reference to the 'boches' dates the letter to the First World War. Gampert begins by explaining the reason for the delay in writing, with reference to 'Mlle Trithen'. He asks him his news, adding 'En tous cas comme je vous connais, je ne doute pas un instant que vous servez votre patrie contres ces affreux "boches" [] j'ai une haine profonde contre les Allemands et je suis Français, Russe, Anglais, Belge, Serbe à fond pour mes sympathies et je vous assure que souvent je souffle d'être neutre'. His father is serving France as 'médecin chef d'une ambulance a Aix-les-Bains (Savoie)'. He describes time spent with his father and his ambulance, and other activities during his holidays. He thinks of Townsend often, 'en me souvenant du temps où Vadime était là; je me rapelle avec joie des journées de bonheur que j'ai passé à Montchaisy et que je n'oublierai jamais de ma vie'. He ends with reference to 'Monsieur Lucien Monod' [symbolist painter (1867-1957)], from whom he has received a letter.
