Ihre Wiederentdeckung gelang im Zusammenhang der Augsburger Erschließung der berühmten Peutinger-Bibliothek. Diskutiert werden in den "Tischgesprächen" ethnische, imperiale und geographische Argumente für ein "bewunderungswürdiges Altertum" der Deutschen, begleitet von brisanten Fragen zu Themen wie dem Reliquientransfer, der Priesterehe am Fall des Apostels Paulus und der europäischen Expansion.
