Na hun succesvolle bundels Diep in mijn harten Geef ons maar Amsterdam, hebben Co de Kloet en Leó Boudewijns nu de teksten van honderd representatieve Nederlandse liedjes bijeengebracht die in de jaren zestig het tegenwicht vormden voor de uit Amerika en Engeland aanstormende rock-'n-roll: Brandend zand, gezongen door Anneke Grönloh, Spiegelbeeld door Willeke Alberti, Middellandse Zee door Anita Berry, Ploem Ploem Jenka door Trea Dobbs, Sophietje door Johnny Lion, Dans nog eenmaal met mij door de Fouryo's enz. Co de Kloet bedacht 'Tijd voor teenagers' in 1959. Dit was het eerste popprogramma in de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse radio (VARA); het werd wekelijks uitgezonden, aanvankelijk gepresenteerd door Dick van 't Sant, later door Herman Stok. De uitzending trok in korte tijd een groot aantal jeugdige luisteraars en werd snel het belangrijkste jongerenprogramma in de nationale ether. Ook voor de artiesten werd het een springplank naar succes. Wie zijn plaat niet in 'Tijd voor teenagers' mocht draaien, kon de hitparade bijna vergeten. Platenmaatschappijen volgden het programma daarom met grote belangstelling. Het was immers essentieel dat hun nieuwe platenoogst ten gehore werd gebracht. Plugging werd een begrip. De boeiende historie van 'Tijd voor teenagers' wordt beschreven aan de hand van de toen populaire Nederlandse hits. Honderd teksten zijn volledig afgedrukt, voorzien van informatie over de artiesten, tekstschrijvers en componisten. Co de Kloet noteerde bovendien zijn persoonlijke herinneringen aan de tien jaar die hij voor dit programma verantwoordelijk was, en schetst aldus een interessant beeld van de lichte muziekcultuur in het Nederland van de jaren zestig.…
