Die Literatur beschreibt 'Aggression' immer als ein absichtlich schädliches Verhalten (psychisch und/oder physisch) gegenüber Dingen, Menschen und Tieren. Dies wird in differenzierter Art und Weise dargestellt, mit einer Vielzahl an Faktoren, welche die Aggression beeinflussen. Beeinflussende Faktoren und Indikatoren geben Auskunft darüber, welche Bedeutung und Auswirkung das Phänomen der Aggression hat. Die Wechselseitigkeit zwischen den beeinflussenden Faktoren und Auswirkung kann das Phänomen verstärken. Das 'sich mitteilen' erfüllt dabei mehrere Funktionen:aktueller Austausch von sachbezogenen Informationen; ermöglicht Erfahrungen, Ideen und Gedanken Anderen zugänglich zu machen. Die gesprochene Überlieferung von Informationen bergen jedoch die Gefahr das Inhalte verloren gehen oder verfälscht werden. Durch die schriftliche Mitteilung gelingt es nun den Menschen Informationen zu konservieren und damit die eigene Existenz zu belegen. Denn ohne schriftliche Zeugnisse hinterlassen wir wenig bis keine Spuren. Das eigene Handeln zu dokumentieren und schriftlich festzuhalten heißt auch, es für andere transparent und nachvollziehbar zu machen. Während es historisch z.B. zahlreiche Dokumente gesellschaftspolitischer Entscheidungsprozesse und medizinischer Untersuchungen existieren, gibt es kaum archivierte Dokumente welche die berufliche Pflege beschreiben. Somit kann der Alltag der Pflege, ihre Tätigkeiten, Erfahrungen und daraus resultierenden Wissen kaum ermittelt werden. Kenntnisse und Erkenntnisse sind so vorwiegend über privater Korrespondenz z.B. über Briefe von pflegenden Diakonissen verfügbar. Somit sind viele, von pflegenden über Jahre gesammelten Erkenntnisse, entsprechend in Vergessenheit geraten und die Leistungen der Pflegenden sind nicht öffentlich sichtbar geworden.Dieses Phänomen setzt sich im gegenwärtigen pflegeberuflichen Kontext fort. 'Die zunehmende Professionalität der Pflege hält nur langsam Einzug in deren Dokumentation'.
