Februar 1990 in New York City nur 32jährig an AIDS starb, war er bereits ein international erfolgreicher und äußerst populärer Künstler. Seine einzigartige und unnachahmliche Bil…dsprache, bestehend aus dicken schwarzen Linien, kräftigen Farben und von Graffitis inspirierten Figuren fand den Weg von der Straße auf den Kunstmarkt - ohne jemals aber von den Mauern und aus den U-Bahnen zu verschwinden. Er bemalte Mauern, veränderte Werbeplakate, malte auf die Wände der New Yorker Underground und hatte Ausstellungen in den renommiertesten Museen und Galerien der Welt. 1986 eröffnet er in Soho seinen Pop-Shop; hier werden seine Poster, Skulpturen, T-Shirts und andere Dinge zu wohltätigen Zwecken verkauft. Bis zu seinem Tod engagiert Haring sich bei großflächigen AIDS Kampagnen, um das Bewusstsein für die Krankheit zu steigern.
