The book is in three volumes. Its reportage of the journey remains a classic of travel writing to this day. The whole work has been…hurried, and the book from beginning to end is like a vessel which ventures out into the ocean of the world's tumult and of criticism with many leaks and cracks. As to the text, he has endeavoured to depict the events of the journey as far as the limited space permitted, but he has also imprudently allowed himself to touch on subjects with which he is not at all familiar. Besides narrating, the narrator had meticulously drawn pictures of what he saw and encountered during his journey to Tibet, which again are classic works of art. This publication contains the entire travelogue of the narrator. With an entourage of helpers, he set out to his destination-Lhasa. He began interestingly, from India. From Simla to Leh to Lhasa the caravan journeyed through the inhospitable Himalayan track and reached the destinations in to Nepal, the sight to picturesque Mansarovar, the holy Lamas in caves and monasteries, the search for the sources of Indus and Brahmaputra- the mosaic is arrestingly charming. A gem of a travelogue, Trans-Himalaya is sheer delight to read, and contains a mine of information. The illustrations should be leniently criticized; with one or two exceptions they are from his own photographs and sketches. The book contains 544 illustrations from photographs, water colour sketches and drawings by the author and 14 maps. About the Author:-Sven Anders Hedin, KNO1kl RVO was a Swedish geographer, topographer, explorer, photographer, travel writer and illustrator of his own works. During four expeditions to Central Asia, he made the Transhimalaya known in the West and located sources of the Brahmaputra, Indus and Sutlej Rivers. He also mapped Lake Lop Nur, and the remains of cities, grave sites and the Great Wall of China in the deserts of the Tarim Basin.
