Interfunktionen, an art journal which published 12 issues between 1968 and 1975 in Cologne, was founded in 1968 as a form of protest by artists who had no affinity with the critical lines that were redrawn at Documenta that year. The review was of considerable importance as a vehicle for propagating pro-European ideas and as a union between artists in Europe and the United States, irrespective of the predominating movements of the time. It contained both theoretical and practical contributions, with the intervention of creators who defined and illustrated their artistic strategies. Directly linked to the most prominent figures in the Düsseldorf Kunstacademie, such as Joseph Beuys, Jorg Immendorf and Sigmar Polke, it also boasted the involvement of the most spirited and reflexive artists of the times, from Vito Acconci and Marcel Broodthaers to Bruce Nauman and Dieter Roth. Interfunktionen, as its name indicates, was an inter-disciplinary publication, open to all artistic genres and with no restrictions as to media. This book is produced in collaboration with Fritz Heubach, the review's first editor, and depicts the experience of those years by means of original documents--some of them hitherto unpublished--artworks, and artists' writings.

["With this special issue, the Hispanic American Historical Review explores the vital work in gender and sexuality being done by today's historians of Latin America. This collection offers readers a look at the current state of gender and sexuality studies-areas of enormous growth and excitement in Latin American scholarship-as well as the dynamic potential of the discipline's future. Sueann Caulfield, one of the most distinguished scholars of Latin American gender studies, leads off with an insightful historiographical analysis of the field. Building on the foundation laid by Caulfield, a forum of four younger scholars- Heidi Tinsman, Karin Rosemblatt, Elizabeth Hutchinson, and Thomas Klubock- examines the construction of gender and power in a variety of politically contested arenas, including agrarian reform, welfarism, and leftist activism. This forum focuses on twentieth-century Chile, a specialty that has recently been producing particularly rich scholarship. From there, the collection expands to include essays by Pablo Piccato and Christina Rivera that analyze gender dynamics, class relations, and sexual violence in the context of the medical-legal state that emerged in early twentieth-century Mexico. The issue concludes with Martin Nesvig, negotiating the complex terrain of Latin American homosexuality and bisexuality. This special issue will be a prove invaluable for anyone teaching women's history, gender history, the history of sexuality, or any course on Latin American history with a focus on gender and sexuality" - Publisher's description].

"An Exhibition of Artists' Books and Multiples from the Permanent Collection of Art Metropole. LEARN TO READ ART is an exhibition of 287 published works by artists from the postwar period to the present. Although the contemporary artist's book emerged early in the twentieth century, it was not until the sixties that it came into its own as a medium ideally suited to the needs of Fluxus and Conceptual artists of the period thus our exhibition picks up this thread of history in the postwar years and follows it into that period of intense evolution which was the sixties and early seventies." ?- AA Bronson, General Idea, from introduction.
