One of a hundred copies printed for private circulation. A celebratory printing by Nash of an account of the church service held upon the twenty-fifth anniversary… of the consecration of Most Rev. Patrick W. Riordan, Archbishop of San Francisco. The account first appeared in The Monitor, October 17, 1908. Riordan was the second archbishop of San Francisco, serving from his consecration in 1883 until his death in 1914.

Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light age toning and slight rippling throughout. Covers are very clean and intact except light fading and faint marks to the boards. Binding is tight. Dust jacket is clean and intact overall but has a closed tear measuring about 1" at lower-right corner of front panel, a few faints spots, and tiny closed tears and chips along edges. A Fine book in a Very Good dust jacket. A reprint of Bret Harte's short story about Tennessee, a gambler, and Tennessee's Partner, his more practical friend, who live in the Old West. This is considered by some to be one of the earliest "buddy" stories in the history of American fiction. First published in the Overland Monthly in 1869. Back colophon: "Here ends No. Three of the Western Classics, being Tennessee's Partner by Bret Harte, the Introduction by William Dallam Armes. The photo-gravure frontispiece by Albertine Randall Wheelan. Of this First Edition one thousand copies have been issued, printed upon Fabriano handmade paper. The typography designed by J. H. Nash. Published by Paul Elder and Company, and done into a book for them at the Tomoye Press, New York City, in the year nineteen hundred and seven.".

Keepsake is very clean and intact except for slight dark…ening (mostly along the edges), slightly bumped corners, and slight wrinkling. A Very Good copy. A keepsake that pays tribute to Giambattista Bodoni (1740-1813), an Italian printer, typographer, type designer, compositor, and publisher. Bodoni worked in Parma and was considered a master printer. He achieved celebrity status in his career, and people flocked to see him at work in his studio. Benjamin Franklin, a fellow printer, even wrote him a fan letter. This keepsake was printed by the noted Bay Area printer, John Henry Nash. Colophon printed at bottom on front: "This keepsake is sent out by the Zellerbach Paper Company to the friends and patrons of the house. The oil painting of Bodoni was specially done by Henry Raschen. The text is by Edward F. O'Day. Printed by John Henry Nash of San Francisco in December, MCMXXV.".

Original publisher's brown paper-covered boards in a 1/4 red leather double slipcase. A beautiful slipcase and book. Outer slipcase has a green and white pattern with multicolored floral motifs. The outer s…lipcase slides right up to the leather portion of the inner slipcase. Gilt lettering and two raised bands on leather spine. When the outer slipcase is taken off, the interior gray cloth portion of the inner slipcase is revealed. Slipcase measures 5 3/4" x 8." Book measures 5 1/8" x 7 1/2." Twenty-four pages, complete. One black-and-white illustrated frontispiece, complete. Pages and covers of the book are very clean and intact. Slight loosening along the gutter, but binding is still relatively tight. Slipcase is virtually pristine and intact except for a small bump at the top of the outer slipcase and minuscule corner and edge wear. A Fine book in a Fine slipcase. Back colophon: "Of this book there have been printed 500 copies; No. 227." Printed by John Henry Nash (1871-1947), the famous Bay Area printer. A work of beautiful, concise prose by the esteemed American poet and suffragist, Sara Bard Field (1882-1974).

Limited edition of 250 copies (this is number 16) printed by Nash. It measures 6.5 x 9 inches. This is a facsimile of John Drinkwater's copy, with his name and a dozen lines of notes in his hand reproduced in facsimile on the front endpaper. Both volumes are housed in a blue slipcase with paper title label on the spine. The slipcase is faded at the edges, corners are bumped, and paper (blue) is chipped at a few edges. It's a heavy and cleverly designed slipcase, and it's kept the books in very good condition. Extra shipping charges will apply for priority or international orders, since it's a box set & I want to make sure to ship it safely.
