Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Good. The Creevey Papers, edited by John Gore, is a fascinating collection of the letters and journals of Thomas Creevey, offering a wonderfully candid and often irreverent view of British political and social life during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Creevey's observations provide colourful insights into politicians, royalty, society and the dramatic events surrounding the Napoleonic era, with his sharp wit making the personalities of the period particularly vivid. Combining gossip, political commentary and first-hand historical observation, the collection is an entertaining and valuable source for Regency and Georgian history. An excellent addition for readers and collectors of British history, political memoirs, social history, Regency literature and historical correspondence. …

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: As New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. This rare copy is in as new, unmarked condition bound in green cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to a tan panel on the spine. This copy is bright, tight, white and square. There is a handsome, heraldic book plate of Herbert J. Fausset M.D. to the front paste down. The scarce price clipped dust wrapper has some very mild edge wear but is still in fine condition, it has now been covered in clear, removable, mylar, protective film. Laid in is a substantial revue of the book on the front page of the Times Literary Supplement published on Thursday February 1st 1934. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. Thomas Creevey (March 1768 - 5 February 1838) was an English politician. He is best known for his insight into social conditions as revealed by his writings, which were published in 1903. Creevey was a Whig and a follower of Charles James Fox, and his active intellect and social qualities procured him a considerable intimacy with the leaders of this political circle. In 1806, when the brief "All the Talents" ministry was formed, he was given the office of secretary to the Board of Control; in 1830, when next his party came into power, Creevey, who had lost his seat in parliament, was appointed by Lord Grey Treasurer of the Ordnance; and subsequently Lord Melbourne made him treasurer of Greenwich Hospital. Creevey is also known for being the first civilian to interview the Duke of Wellington after the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. He and his wife, who was ill at the time, were vacationing in Brussels when Napoleon was defeated by British and Prussian forces near the Belgian border. At their meeting in Wellington's headquarters, Creevey recorded the Duke's famous quote about the battle ("It was a near run thing. The nearest run thing you ever saw in your life.") He is remembered through the Creevey Papers, published in 1903 under the editorship of Sir Herbert Maxwell, which, consisting partly of Creevey's own journals and partly of correspondence, give a lively and valuable picture of the political and social life of the late Georgian era, and are characterized by an almost Pepysian outspokenness. For thirty-six years Creevey had kept a "copious diary", and had preserved a vast miscellaneous correspondence with such people as Lord Brougham, and his stepdaughter, Elizabeth Ord, had assisted him, by keeping his letters to her, in compiling material avowedly for a collection of Creevey Papers in the future. Includes a sheet on "The Saga of Boo Weller's class ring" From the Class of 1939 website: "This web of the USNA Class of 1939 goal is to provide some background information about various classmates by chronicling their accomplishments both in and out of the service. Even more importantly, this site is also a place where we are publishing whatever updates we have been able to obtain regarding who is still alive including classmates and/or spouses along with contact information and any status updates that have been provided. As we remember our Class (70+ years later) it s good to review what the class as a whole has accomplished, and then what a few of the individuals have done. We entered with 801, graduated 581, and were about 65 recently. Of that 581, about 530 were commissioned with others going back a year, or to other services, or to the outside world as then physically disqualified for Commissions. The Class as a whole and its individuals have contributed much to our country. Hard to match the war service record of the class, covering as it did the prelude to and then all of WWII, every year of Korea, and the Cold War including Greece, Suez crisis, Berlin Airlift, shouldering and patrols in Med and Baltic, Gulf of Sidra, and the Vietnam War and Yom Kippur War. Of all the classes ever graduated from the Naval Academy, the Class of 1939 comes in second in having had the most Killed In Action, with 52. Very good. No dust jacket. Cover has slight wear and soiling.…
