Reflet par excellence de la vie intérieure, la peinture bouddhique se révèle dès lors, elle aussi, exceptionnellement féconde. Ces quatre siècles de peinture vont, par conséquent, exercer une influence déterminante sur l'évolution de l'art chinois. Très richement illustré, le présent volume en rassemble les chefs-d'oeuvre mais révèle aussi, au lecteur occidental, des compositions moins connues ou découvertes récemment.
