First edition of this 'family' version of the famous jest book, complete with a biography of Joe Miller himself. The title and frontispiece are by William James Linton (1812-98), the artist and political reformer who went to the US in 1866 and died at New Haven.

Añadir al carrito8vo, pp [4], 124, woodcut frontispiece, title page vignette, vignette illustrations in text, WITH CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING, bound in contemporary straight grained roan morocco, spine gilt ruled, rubbed to joints and spine ends, the upper joint lightly cracked, but a good clean copy FIRST OR EARLY EDITION; probably firts issued in parts, the date of circa 1835 is suggested by the BL, who also an issue by Smeeton as 1828; but neither issue is dated and both appear to be the same content wise. Copies recorded on COPAC - BL and UCL only - are not, however coloured, ours being unusual in this regard though certainly as issued. The title is in any case a scarce one.

Minor bumping and chipping to board corners and top edge of rear board. Moderate staining to front and rear pastedowns and endpages.
