Product Description: The fabric of space and time is torn asunder and Earth becomes a nexus â" a gateway â" to countless alien worlds and the forces of magic and the supernatural. Thus begins the saga of Rifts. Now imagine not one, but three galaxies said to contain millions of inhabited worlds. At its center is Phase World, itself the commercial and technological center of the universe and terminus of all known spacelanes. A world where transdimensional gates reach to hundreds of other universes. All of it is said to be the creation of the mythical Cosmic Forge. A wonder capable of giving birth to a million galaxies. A sentient force of magic and technology and life that, when misused but once, long ago, hid itself away, but watches and waits. For what, no one knows. While it waits, the Forge sometimes reaches out to touch the few who are worthy, and gift them with the power of the cosmos. The continuing adventures of Cosmo-Knight Caleb Vulcan carry our hero across space and time to be pitted against one enemy after another. The first is the wicked Royal Kreeghor, Geryon, commander of the Shadowstar, a dreadnaught rumored to carry a star-slaying weapon capable of snuffing out entire solar systems. Then Caleb must once again face the mad Elf, Elias Harkonnen. A soulless psychopath who quit the Invincible Guardsmen because they did not offer him enough opportunities to kill people. A mad dog who relishes the thought of adding a Cosmo-Knight to his list of illustrious victims. As each chapter unfolds, our hero faces new challenges and encounters friends and foes, and twists and turns too shocking to reveal on this back cover. Such is the power and legacy of a Cosmo-Knight.…

Añadir al carritoEarly printing (no edition/printing statement provided per Bobbs-Merrill's erratic contemporary practice). 276 pages. Hardcover: H 20.75cm x L 13.75cm. Lacks dust jacket. Brown cloth; obtrusive surface abrasion to spine cloth with underlying backstrip visible at several points; spine's lettering perished; mild mottling to boards; front board's lettering heavily flaked away resulting in most being difficult to discern. Toning and staining to edges; toning to endpapers; some toning and foxing spots to interior pages. Front free endpaper has past bookseller's pencil notes as well as an ink signature "Luther Spencer, Jr." which seems likely to be novelist Elizabeth Spencer's elder brother James Luther Spencer, Jr. as the book was acquired from a Greenwood, Mississippi estate from a family with roots in Leflore County and Carroll County, Mississippi. Binding is firm. Only a fair copy for the book's exterior cosmetics. Although ghost written by newspaper columnist Charles Leroy Edson, THE IRON PUDDLER is the autobiography of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Republican Party politician James John Davis, aka "Iron Puddler" or "Puddler Jim," who served as the second U.S. Secretary of Labor from March 1921 to November 1930. Published in 1922, the book covers his immigrant childhood through his ascension to the cabinet post but, of course, precedes his long tenure in that position as well as his election to the United States Senate from Pennsylvania in which he served from 1930 to 1945.…

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book scrutinizes appropriations hearings conducted by a subcommittee of the House of Representatives, chaired by James W. Good, a Republican from Iowa, in April 1920 during the 66th United States Congress. The objective was to consider and approve or disapprove supplemental funding requests from various government departments and agencies, including the District of Columbia government and its institutions, for the remaining months of the fiscal year ending 30 June 1920. The hearings took place against the backdrop of the First World War's conclusion a year and a half earlier, which had put a strain on the nation's resources and economy. With the war over, the government was seeking to return to peacetime operations and reduce spending; however, the hearings reveal that many government agencies were still experiencing funding shortfalls and had to justify their supplemental funding requests to Congress. The book provides valuable insights into the inner workings of the US government's budgetary and appropriations process, particularly in the aftermath of a major war. It also sheds light on the challenges and complexities of managing public finances and allocating resources in a time of transition and economic uncertainty. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
