Paperback. Condición: Very Good. Accompanying a major touring exhibition, "Picasso and Modern British Art" is the first book to explore Pablo Picasso's lifelong connections with the United Kingdom. Picasso's enormous impact on British modernism is examined through seven artists in particular for whom he proved an important stimulus: Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland and David Hockney. Their responses to Picasso's work are wide and varied: from Francis Bacon's extraordinary Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion (1944) that draws from Picasso's paintings of figures on the beach at Dinard, works that Bacon said first inspired him to take up painting, to David Hockney's pictorial 'homages' to Picasso after visiting the major Picasso retrospective exhibition at Tate eight times, the beginning of a life-long obsession with the artist. Such was Picasso's status that it extended beyond the artistic to the political sphere, with the tour of his anti-Fascist work Guernica at the end of the 1930s and his presence at the Sheffield Peace Conference in 1950 making headline news. With over 150 illustrations and texts by leading experts in the field, this book sheds light on a little-known aspect of Picasso's career, while at the same time redrawing our mental map of British culture in the early and mid-twentieth century. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.…

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. One hundred years on, this book portrays Picasso's legendary 1917 journey to Rome and Naples with Jean Cocteau, Igor Stravinsky and the company of Sergei Diagilhev's Ballet Russes. lt was during this trip that he met and fell in love with the company's leading dancer, Olga Khokhlova, who would become his first wife. In addition to the extraordinary weeks spent in ltaly, which were pivotal for the development of Picasso's art during the postwar years, the monograph also examines his production immediately after, with particular reference to the ballets Parade and Pulcinella, as well as those paintings indebted to the iconographic and cultural worlds to which these ballets introduced him. The book focuses on Picasso's ability to experiment in different genres, from still-life to portraiture, from the playful and decorative collages executed during World War I, to the sophisticated realism of the years of his association with Diagilhev. It also documents the long-term impact of the ltalian journey on Picasso's art. With over 100 works, including iconic paintings, drawings and photographs, Between Cubism and Neoclassicism shows masterpieces and key works of this period, illuminating the classical elements throughout the artist's career. Explores Pablo Picasso's lifelong connections with the United Kingdom. This title examines Picasso's enormous impact on British modernism through seven artists in particular for whom he proved an important stimulus: Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland and David Hockney. Condition : as new. - Picasso and Modern British Art is the first book to explore an overlooked yet important aspect of Pablo Picasso's life and work: his lifelong connection with the United Kingdom. Picasso's enormous impact on British modernism is examined through seven artists for whom he proved a particularly important stimulus: Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland, and David Hockney. With more than 150 illustrations and essays by leading experts in the field, this book will appeal to anyone interested in Picasso's long career or the development of modernism in Britain.
