Over the years some of the most historic parts of Lowestoft have been destroyed - by enemy bombs as well as by insensitive planning decisions - and the well-known fishing fleet that used to be sich an important part of the town's life is also a shadow of its former self. All is not doom and gloom, however: slum clearance has had many benefirs, while some important buildings have recently been given a new lease of life. Ian G.
