Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 42nd Edition By Publisher. 469 pages.** 230 Grams; (by HOMER author of he Odyssey) The Iliad is Homer's other great epic, and it's very different from The Odyssey. ** The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic poem attributed to Homer, set during the Trojan War. It focuses not on the whole war, but on a short, intense period near its end, exploring themes of honor, rage, mortality, fate, and the cost of war. ** The poem centers on Achilles, the greatest Greek warrior, whose anger (menis) drives the plot. After a dispute with Agamemnon, Achilles withdraws from battle, leading to devastating consequences for the Greeks. When his close companion Patroclus is killed by Hector, Achilles returns to battle, kills Hector, and ultimately confronts the human cost of his rage. ** Plot: ? Quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon Achilles refuses to fight after Agamemnon dishonors him. The Greeks suffer without Achilles Hector leads the Trojans to major victories. Patroclus's death Wearing Achilles's armor, Patroclus is slain by Hector. Achilles's return Consumed by grief and fury, Achilles kills Hector. Priam's plea King Priam bravely visits Achilles to beg for Hector's body. Achilles, moved by shared grief, returns it-one of the poem's most powerful moments. ** Major Themes: Rage and honor Achilles's anger shapes the entire narrative. Mortality vs. glory Heroes seek eternal fame knowing life is short. War's brutality The Iliad is unflinching about violence and loss. Fate and the gods Divine intervention constantly alters human plans.** Minor Creasing to covers; indents to front cover; Size: 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. cover shows a detail from 'Jove Stiking the Greeks with lightning' by Giovanni Demin, in the Palazzo Papafava, Padua.
