The fact that this computer experiment-which was completely bizarre at the time-was immediately printed there in 1957 marked a milestone in the history of music. - The few surviving copies of the first edition are found almost exclusively in university archives and music libraries, which is why they rarely appear on the open market. He is considered a pioneer of computer-generated and algorithmic music. Beginning in 1952, he taught at the University of Illinois (transferring from the chemistry department to the music department in 1958) and founded the Experimental Music Studio (EMS) there. From 1968 to 1989, he was a professor of composition at the University at Buffalo. - Small discolored spot on the upper front cover; otherwise in very good condition.
