Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book recounts the life and times of Jakob Stainer, an esteemed violin and lute maker whose instruments were considered the finest in the world. Stainer established a violin-making school in the German-speaking world and is thought by many to have been the first violin-maker to appreciate the acoustic potential of the scroll. His designs, particularly for the violin, provided the foundation for the instruments used today by the world's leading orchestras. Stainer's creations are coveted by collectors, and luthiers study them to refine their own craft. The author's extensive research sheds light on Stainer's influences, business practices, and impact on the development of stringed instruments. While this biography focuses on Stainer, it also delves into the history and evolution of violin making, providing a broader context for his groundbreaking contributions. Through the author's engaging writing style, readers will gain a deep understanding of Stainer's artistry and his lasting legacy in the realm of music and craftsmanship. This book is a collection of Gedichte (poems) by Hermann von Gilm, considered one of the most important poets from the County of Tyrol (which is now part of western Austria and northern Italy), writing some of the most famous and loved poems in the German language. His poems are written in a lyrical style, with a focus on the beauty of the Tyrolean landscape and the lives of its people. Many of his poems also explore themes of love, loss, and longing. Gilm was a master of the sonnet form, and many of his sonnets are considered to be among the best ever written in German. His work placed him as one of the most prominent figures in the literary tradition of the Tyrol and is a valuable contribution to the canon of German-language poetry.
