Ce recueil réunit les pamphlets les plus influents qui ont façonné la légende noire de Catherine de Médicis, véhiculant l'image d'une souveraine machiavélique et despotique dans l'imaginaire collectif. Cette perception a perduré durant des siècles avant d'être largement remise en question à partir de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle. 1- Attribué par ses contemporains à Henri Estienne, ce pamphlet pourrait également avoir pour auteur Jean de Serres, Théodore de Bèze ou Innocent Gentillet. "Pamphlet très violent, écrit pendant la régence de 1574 contre la tyrannie et les vices de Catherine de Médicis, histoire des guerres de religion où les responsabilités sont rejetées sur la reine.
