General Allured [aka Alvred] Brevard Nettleton (1838-1911) dropped out of Oberlin College when President Lincoln made his first call for volunteers at the outbreak of the Civil War. He served with General Sheridan's Cavalry Corps in over 70 battles. He received a Brevet promotion to the rank of Brigadier General on mustering out in 1865. He set himself up as a publisher and journalist, working a the editor of the "Daily Register" and the "Chicago Advance" as well as managing editor of the "Philadelphia Inquirer" before founding the "Minneapolis Tribune". Nettleton was appointed to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Treasure by President Benjamin Harrison in 1890 serving in that position for 2 years.…
