Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good condition. No jacket. First Edition. New York: The Parade Publishing Company, 1926. Very Good condition. Bound in the original green cloth, which is still bright (without any of the usual fading). SEE PHOTOS. Sharp corners. Hinges are perfect. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. The fourth and apparently final issue of this short-lived magazine in book form. Hardcover. It was edited by Jamaican-born Walter Adolphe Roberts (1886-1962), who also contributed to this issue a short editorial, a play (THE QUEEN'S TENT, pp. 62-80), an article (AL SMITH FOR PRESIDENT), and a book review. This issue is filled with short stories, poetry, and essays. Of special interest is Adolphe de Castro's 17-page essay, AMBROSE BIERCE AS HE REALLY WAS, AN INTIMATE ACCOUNT OF HIS LIFE AND DEATH. Adolphe de Castro met Bierce in 1886, became his protà gà , and "wrote" a novella in collaboration with him. The article published here is the basis for the controversial explanation of Bierce's 1913 disappearance into revolution-torn Mexico. (de Castro claimed that Bierce had been shot by soldiers under orders from Pancho Villa). Other contributors to this issue are George Sterling (another Ambrose Bierce protà gà ), David Warren Ryder, Eleanor Ranos, Helene Mullins, Isa Glenn, H. M. Hamilton, S. Bert Cooksley, Lillian White Spencer, Louise Rice, Solita Solano, William Salisbury, Halpin O'Reilly Gilbert, Arthur Robson, Marcia Nardi, Eleanor de Nardi, Cary Ranck, Walter Haviland, Louis C. Fisher, Charles Divine, Robert Napier, Pauline de Silva, Eva Balfour, etc. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good condition/No jacket. 8vo. 191pp.…

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Book. Rare complete run of Living Arts Magazine (3 issues published 1963-4),edited by Theo Crosby and John Bodley. Black & white printed in glossy wraps. Crosby associated himself with ICA in the early 60s and in 1963, under Croby's lead, the ICA exhibited Living Cities, to foreground the urban theories of the young Archigram group. The magazine therefore becomes an intrinsic part of the new international vision set out by Crosby and others, overlapping with other landmark publications of the era/movewment such as This Is Tomorrow, and Archigram. Autumn '60 for Ochestra by Cornelius Cardew, Photographs by Robert Freeman and Letter from the Airport by Carl Nesjar feature in Volume 1. Volume 2 includes : Sculptures and Statement by Peter Startup, Urbane Image by Richard Hamilton and Living City by Peter Cook, Dennis Compton et al. Volume 3 includes THe Allegorical Situation by Bernard Cohen, David Sylvester interviewing David Smith, Communication and Symbolic Value by Gillo Dorfles, THe Atavism of the Short-Distance Minicyclist by Reyner Banham and review of Living City by Robert Maxwell. The 50 page Living City section of Volume 2 includes THE EXHIBITION - EXPERIENCE 19 JUNE - 2 AUGUST 1963 described and expanded by it's designers, with Manifesto, Introduction & ket to the numerous pages of illustrations, design and texts. Amongst the many contributions are THE KEY TO THE VITALITY OF THE CITY by Peter Cook, CITY SYNTHESIS by Dennis Crompton, Total Exhibition Structure, MOVEMENT GLOOP, and FINAL NOTES ON THE LIVING CITY. Condition - the plastic cover tends to bubble. A fault uniform in all copies (& apparent in all 9 copies of issue 2 exhibited in Tate Modern Hamilton retrospective, 2014). These copies have some of that bubble effect but are the best I have seen with only a little near spine. Each rubber stamped neatly on colophon page "Michael Farr (Design Integration) 97 Jerymn Street London " (a prestigious London design company). Slight wear to issue 1 cover. General minor handling. Copies are prone to curling of covers due to plastic overlay, but being housed in a homemade cardboard slipcase these copies are better than usual. Minor rubbing to colophon pages (from inside flap printed image). Very difficult to find a set in this kind of condition. VG++/ near fine.…

Añadir al carritoFull-Leather. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good copy in contemporary full calf binding. Originally issued in 60 parts, this work claims to be a comprehensive and accurate picture of Great Britain and Ireland. In reality the work mostly covers England with very small sections on everywhere else. There does not appear to be a definitive collation. There are directions to the binder but these number the contents 1-60, probably reflecting the 60 part issue and are very difficult to relate to the actual maps and scenes. This copy has: frontispiece; engraving to the preface; 2 folding maps of England and Wales; 29 single view plates; 52 double view plates; 4 triple view plates; 4 single page county maps; 12 double county map pages; 2 triple county map pages; 3 quad county map pages; and one page of portraits. The binding has been rebacked preserving the original spine and rebuilding the corners. It is in full calf with an intricate panelled diamond design to the boards, and with raised bands, title label and further diamond patterning to the spine. There is some scuffing and surface damage, particularly to the front board. All page edges are reddened. New endpapers have been added. Contents with frontispiece; title; preface; introduction; text with maps and plates in 5 parts of which Part I is in 4 books and covers most of England; directions to binder; list of subscribers. The publisher's catalogue is not present. The contents are very clean. There is some persistent worming which is present to around p 429. Fortunately the animal(s) have moved vertically so the damage consists of a few tiny holes. Professional paper repair has been done to some of these as well to the bottom corner of the frontispiece and the title, and occasionally elsewhere. P 503 has lost the top of the bottom corner and there is a mispagination - p 252 is numbered 452. The view of Westminster has been strangely bound in the section on Northumberland. Please enquire if you would like to see further images. Hamilton, Carter, Griffith, O'Neal, Dodd, Metz et al (ilustrador).…
