Der Bogen reicht von ihren frühen Reportagen für den Rolling Stone, dessen Cheffotografin sie in den 1970er-Jahren war und für die sie auf intime Tuchfühlung mit den Stars ging, über die aufwendig inszenierten Porträt- und Coverfotos für Magazine wie Vanity Fair und Vogue. Der gewichtige Band präsentiert so berühmte Aufnahmen wie die innige Umarmung zwischen John Lennon und Yoko Ono neben selten oder noch nie zuvor gezeigten Bildern. Einige ihrer gefeierten Gruppenporträts offenbaren erst im Extremformat ihre ganze Brillanz. Leibovitz' Fotografien sind intim und iconic zugleich, sie sind stilistisch variabel und tragen doch alle unverkennbar ihre Handschrift. Oft wird sie, vor allem von jüngeren Kollegen, imitiert - einen echten Leibovitz erkennt man aber auf den ersten Blick.
