Females are important pollinators which have a specialised pollen-carrying structure on the underside of the abdomen. Trachusa bees are solitary although usually construct their nests in aggregations. For those species whose breeding biology is known, nest cells are made from resin and pieces of green leaves. Trachusa has a world-wide distribution. This publication is the first comprehensive overview and guide to the 25 species found in Europe, Africa and Asia. It provides descriptions of all species and gives separate identification keys to females and males. All species are illustrated, with altogether 205 colour micro photographs and over 50 line drawings showing morphological details. The species accounts are further supported ny distribution maps and graphs depicting seasonal occurences. This publication hereby summarises our knowledge and attempts to stimulate further research in the taxonomy, biology and ecology of this still little-known group of insects.…

The cosmopolitan family Vespidae (Hymenoptera: Vespoidea) comprises approximately 5,000 described species worldwide, traditionally classified into six subfamilies: Stenogastrinae, Eumeninae s.l., Euparagiinae, Masarinae, Polistinae, and Vespinae. Among vespid wasps, social behaviour ranges from solitary nesting to highly eusocial societies that function as superorganisms. Vespid wasps play vital roles in terrestrial ecosystems and are recognised as efficient biological control agents, preying on caterpillars and other insects, including many agricultural pests. Additionally, by occupying top positions in terrestrial arthropod food webs and visiting flowers for nectar, they contribute to the pollination of fruit and vegetable crops. Some vespid species have become invasive pests, and/or are feared for their painful stings, which can be fatal to individuals allergic to their venom. This book presents the first comprehensive treatment of the Vespidae of the Middle East, offering detailed information on 716 valid species and subspecies across 69 genera in four subfamilies: Eumeninae, Masarinae, Polistinae, and Vespinae. It provides a complete taxonomic treatment of all subfamilies known from the region, along with insights into their general biology, ecology, and geographic distribution. The book also includes discussions on morphology, identification keys to genera, economic importance, diagnostic characters of each group, and their affinities with related groups. An extensive bibliography of over 800 references supports further study, and, whenever possible, the information has been updated to reflect the most current knowledge. As the definitive guide to the Vespidae of the Middle East, this book serves as a valuable resource for researchers studying wasps worldwide. Añadir al carritoThe pteromalids (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae) are small parasitic wasps feeding as larvae on the immature stages of other species of insects (mainly) and spiders (rarely) and also many of them are phytophagous. These are one of the numerous and economically important groups of parasitoids regulating the abundance of many insects, including xylophagous ones. The family is distributed in all biogeographical areas of the wolr and shows great diversity in morphology and biology. It contains more than 600 valid genera and more than 3500 valid species. Species diversity of Pteromalidae in Iran is studied in this paper. In total, 227 species from 114 genera and 16 subfamilies are listed. Ansfelden. 101 pp., 4 figs, br. 8 [15.5 x 22 cm].…
