Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Autobiography of Henry VIII is the magnificent historical novel that established Margaret George's career. Evocatively written in the first person as Henry VIII's private journals, the novel was the product of fifteen years of meticulous research and five handwritten drafts. Much has been written about the mighty, egotistical Henry VIII: the man who dismantled the Church because it would not grant him the divorce he wanted; who married six women and beheaded two of them; who executed his friend Thomas More; who sacked the monasteries; who longed for a son and neglected his daughters, Mary and Elizabeth; who finally grew fat, disease-ridden, dissolute. Now, in her magnificent work of storytelling and imagination Margaret George bring us Henry VIII's story as he himself might have told it, in memoirs interspersed with irreverent comments from his jester and confident, Will Somers. Brilliantly combining history, wit, dramatic narrative, and an extraordinary grasp of the pleasures and perils of power, this monumental novel shows us Henry the man more vividly than he has ever been seen before. Evocatively written as Henry VIII's private journals, Margaret George tells the former king's life, using her now trademark mix of history and imagination to tell the story as he might have told it. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. You definitely can't question the validity of my store name 'eclectic' as we move from Jawaharlal Nehru to Curious George (which I admit to loving as a child). And the other part of the name, the 'rare' part, very surprisingly may also apply here. You wouldn't think a Curious George title from 1988 would be hard to find. But there are only a few out there all appearing to be either ex-library books or in rough condition. None with the dust jacket. And none first editions. This copy is NOT an ex-library book. It is in Near Fine/Good condition. Thus it has its dust jacket. And it is a First Edition (with a Number Line to 1). So, for all you Curious George aficionados take a look around and see if I missed something. I've checked a few book sites. BTW, Curious George is still looking very good in 1988. Probably all that time at the beach. On the front cover he's surrounded by banana yellow, or perhaps just yellow and it looks very good. There's one or two very slight 'almost spots' to the right and above him on the front cover (see 4th photo) but that's not much and that's all. These covers, the spine and the back as well, are very clean. And you are not going to find any wear on them, not at the corners, not at the edges, and not at the spine ends. There's more good news inside the book. Firstly, it's very solidly bound, no issues. Secondly, the pages are extremely clean. And there aren't any markings or attachments or creases or dogeared corners. And no child or adult has written or crayoned their name or anything else on any page in the book. So the interior is top-notch. The dust jacket has done an excellent job protecting the book but it's paid a price. There is a 1 1/4" tear off the front covers top edge and a 1" tear off its bottom edge. There's also a crease right above the front bottom edge and below the front top edge. There are a few 1/4 and 1/2" tears off the top edge of the rear cover and one tiny one off its bottom. Completing the list of imperfections, the yellow of the spine has faded to white, as well as a small area to the right of the spine on the front cover. And there's a little bit of waviness on parts of the rear cover. I feel like I'm piling on poor George, so here are some positives: the covers are pretty clean (see photos). And the flaps are in very good condition, And the dust jacket is NOT price-clipped. It has already been fitted with a protective cover. Take a look at the first two photos. It presents better than my description would lead you to expect.
