He rode on mules rather than in automobiles, and he lived for weeks at a time in the homes of the paisanos in the little villages. In the third place, he was not content to observe only present social realities but, in order to interpret the present properly, he dedicated himself to the study of our historical past in which present realities have their roots, In the fourth place, listening wisely to the soul of our proletarian multitudes, he learned of their hopes and aspirations.
