Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fair. A year's worth (1760) of the Gentleman's Magazine by Sylvanus Urban; the pseudonym of Edmund Cave, founder and originator of the Magazine. Indeed, this publication was the first to adopt the word and covered newsworthy and other items across a wide range of topics e.g. Observations on the North Sea, the Decline of Christianity (sic), Methods of Curing the Bite of a Mad Dog. It includes the front page of each monthly edition; usually with a b/w illustration of St John's Gate, London. At the end of the book is a 'Supplement to the Gentleman's Magazine For the Year 1760,' (containing memorable events of that year; including the capitulation of Montreal). The layout is of its time with drop capitals, lettered paragraphs with two columns on each page (not unlike a contemporary bible). There are also occasional lists, tables, maps and diagrams (b/w). Quarter leather boards with patterned card decorated covers. Both the boards and spine are faded and damaged in places; especially at the head and tail of the spine - see close up image. The binding remains reasonably tight. Internally, the pages are mildly to moderately tanned with occasional spotting; much more evident on the preliminary and final ones. At the front of the book there are some notes/page references in pencil on the ffep, a pencil signature and name plate on the front pastedown. (Photos on request). pp. 623 + various indices/130 x 210. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request an additional payment to cover any extra shipping/postage charges. Abe2250.
